At Berinba Public School, assessment and reporting are integral to effective teaching and learning.
We believe that high-quality assessment practices enable students to understand their learning journey, help teachers tailor instruction to meet individual needs, and keep families informed and engaged in their child's education.
Our approach to assessment is ongoing, purposeful, inclusive and varied. Teachers use a combination of formative assessments (such as observations, discussions, student self-reflections, and classroom tasks) and summative assessments (such as tests, presentations, and final projects) to build a comprehensive picture of each student’s progress. These assessments are aligned with curriculum outcomes and designed to provide insight into students’ understanding, skills, and areas for growth.
We recognise that every child is unique and progresses at their own pace. Through regular assessment, we aim to identify learning strengths, address challenges early, and provide timely feedback that supports both academic and personal development. Students are encouraged to set goals, reflect on their learning, and celebrate their achievements.
Parent-teacher conferences and discussions offer valuable opportunities to share insights, discuss learning goals, and strengthen the partnership between families and teachers.
Twice a year, teachers formally assess a student’s achievement based on the outcomes described in the syllabus of each subject. A written report using the common grade scale is sent home in the first half of the year, usually near the end of Term 2, and again in Term 4. This gives a clear picture of your child’s learning.
Assessments
We provide detailed information to students about what we expect from them throughout the year and how their work will be assessed. Students have a number of formal assessments throughout their schooling.
