Why choose us?

Berinba Public School is a vibrant and inclusive learning community in Yass, just 45 minutes from Canberra, where every learner is known, valued, and supported to grow. With 232 students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds, our school is grounded in a shared commitment to creating a safe, connected, and forward-thinking environment. This context statement reflects the voices of our community and our collective belief in the power of belonging, high expectations, and continuous improvement.

A defining strength of Berinba is our culture of shared leadership. We believe that leadership shows up in everyday practice in how staff support one another, how they engage with clarity and purpose, and how they embrace the responsibility of shaping student outcomes. At Berinba, leadership is not confined to position; it is woven into the way staff collaborate, reflect, and lean into the work required to create meaningful change.

Our three Multi-Categorical (MC) support classes highlight our deep commitment to inclusion and equity. Together with our mainstream programs, they form a learning environment where diversity is celebrated and every student including the 18% who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and 4% from language backgrounds other than English, has their identity, strengths, and aspirations recognised. We are intentional in fostering culturally safe and supportive spaces that nurture confidence, pride, and a strong sense of belonging.

Across the school, teachers engage in evidence informed practice in Literacy and Numeracy, anchored by explicit instruction, high expectations, and shared accountability. This foundation is enriched by personalised learning pathways that support growth for every student. Staff extend their leadership beyond the classroom through strong, collaborative relationships with families, an active P&C Association, and the Yass Valley Learning Community. These partnerships reflect our belief that authentic collaboration strengthens outcomes and deepens our collective capacity to serve students well.

As a school community, we are deeply committed to preparing students for their future not just academically, but as confident, responsible, and resilient individuals. Our diverse extracurricular opportunities in Sport, ICT, and the Creative and Performing Arts provide students with avenues to explore passions, develop new skills, and experience moments of courage and achievement. These programs are shaped by staff who lead with curiosity, compassion, and a belief in each student's potential.

Guided by our Strategic Improvement Plan, our focus is centred on three core priorities:

Our improvement journey is strengthened by reflective practice, external validation, and a collective commitment to professional growth. We see every staff member as both a leader and a learner, contributing to a school culture where clarity, purpose, and shared responsibility drive improvement.

As we look to the future, we remain committed to cultivating a learning community where every student is equipped not only to succeed today but to thrive in a rapidly changing world. With a foundation built on trust, collaboration, and evidence-informed practice, we continue to shape a school culture where all students can learn, grow, and step confidently into tomorrow.

Our vision:

At Berinba Public School, every child is held at the centre of our work. We believe that when students feel seen, safe, and deeply valued, they step into learning with courage, curiosity and a sense of possibility. Our commitment is simple: every child deserves a place where they are known, where their story matters, and where they feel they truly belong.

We value equity, excellence, integrity and accountability, and these come to life through the relationships we build with children, with families, and with one another. We understand that growth happens when students are supported to take brave steps, make mistakes, and learn from them in an environment grounded in compassion and trust. When children feel connected, they dare to try new things, to use their voice, and to discover who they are becoming.

In partnership with families and our wider community, we create learning spaces where belonging isn't just encouraged, it's expected. We nurture classrooms where children feel safe to wonder, question, collaborate and lead. Their ideas, strengths and cultural identities shape the heartbeat of our school.

Our vision is for every child to leave Berinba confident in who they are, proud of what they can contribute, and equipped with the compassion and resilience to thrive in a complex and changing world. We want our students to walk forward knowing they are capable, creative, courageous learners ready to make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others.
