High potential and gifted education

At Berinba Public School, we recognise that every learner’s journey is unique. Some students demonstrate advanced strengths in areas such as creative thinking, problem-solving, leadership, the arts or sport.

We intentionally identify and nurture these strengths early through high-quality, engaging teaching and enriched learning opportunities. By providing challenge, voice and support, we empower our students to stretch themselves, grow with confidence and continue their Berinba Flight of learning.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In Our Classroom

High potential and gifted education lives in daily practice at Berinba Public School. Our approach ensures all students have opportunities to think, create, lead and explore every day.

Across Our School

Beyond the classroom, Berinba students are supported to discover, grow and shine in ways that honour their individual strengths, interests and passions.

Every child is unique, and our opportunities are intentionally flexible and diverse so students can explore who they are and who they are becoming.

Talents are celebrated through rich creative and performance opportunities within our school and beyond, including music performances, school-based showcases, creative arts experiences and community events that allow students to share their learning with pride and confidence.

Student leadership and voice are deeply embedded at Berinba. Through structured leadership roles, peer support opportunities and authentic leadership projects, students are empowered to contribute meaningfully to our school community. Our leaders, including SRC representatives and student leadership groups, have real responsibility and a genuine voice in shaping our school.

Curiosity and belonging are part of everyday life. Student-led clubs and interest-based opportunities at lunch and recess provide spaces where students can connect, create and collaborate around shared passions.

Students extend their strengths through specialist learning experiences in STEM, supported by our dedicated specialist teacher, with opportunities including coding, design thinking, problem-solving challenges and LEGO robotics.

Sporting development is supported through our representative Sport program, offering skill development, teamwork and pathways into representative sport. Students demonstrating high physical potential may access PSSA competitions and representative school sport opportunities, supporting both participation and excellence.

At Berinba, these opportunities are not about doing more they are about becoming more: confident learners, courageous leaders and connected members of our community.

Across NSW

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) in NSW public schools ensures that every student with high potential is identified early and supported to thrive. Through inclusive, evidence-based practices, schools provide differentiated learning, enrichment opportunities and targeted support across the domains of intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical development. HPGE in NSW values equity, recognising that high potential exists in all communities, and aims to develop confident, capable learners who are challenged, engaged and empowered to reach their personal best.
