At Berinba Public School, we believe every child brings something special to our school community. Every learner’s journey is unique, and we are committed to creating an environment where each student feels seen, encouraged and inspired to discover just how far they can go.

Some students demonstrate high potential and particular strengths in areas such as creative and critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, academic learning, the arts, technology or sport. These strengths can emerge in many different ways and at different stages of a child’s learning journey. Our role is to notice them, nurture them and provide opportunities for them to grow.

Through high-quality teaching, rich learning experiences and purposeful opportunities for extension and enrichment, we encourage students to explore their interests, deepen their thinking, take on new challenges and pursue areas in which they show passion and potential. We want our students to feel excited by learning and confident to ask questions, share ideas, think differently and take positive risks.

Importantly, supporting high potential is about more than achievement. It is about helping children develop confidence, curiosity, creativity, resilience and a strong sense of who they are as learners. By providing the right balance of challenge, voice, opportunity and support, we empower students to recognise their strengths while continuing to grow in new and exciting directions.

We also value the important partnership between school and home. Families know their children deeply, and by working together, sharing observations and celebrating strengths, we can create meaningful opportunities that help every child thrive.

At Berinba, we want our students to dream big, discover what inspires them and know that their ideas and talents matter. Wherever their strengths may lie, we are proud to walk alongside them as they stretch themselves, build confidence and continue their Berinba Flight of growing, discovering and reaching towards their potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

Inspire – High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how we recognise, nurture and extend students who demonstrate high potential and advanced learning needs.

At our school, we understand that high potential can look different for every child. It may shine through in academic learning, creative thinking, leadership, problem-solving, the arts, sport or the way a student approaches new ideas and challenges.

Through Inspire, we intentionally identify students’ strengths and provide rich, engaging and appropriately challenging learning experiences that encourage them to think deeply, explore their interests and stretch beyond what they already know and can do.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In Our Classroom

Inspire – High potential and gifted education lives in daily practice at Berinba Public School. Our approach ensures all students have opportunities to think, create, lead and explore every day.

Across Our School

Beyond the classroom, Berinba students are supported to discover, grow and shine in ways that honour their individual strengths, interests and passions.

Every child is unique, and our opportunities are intentionally flexible and diverse so students can explore who they are and who they are becoming.

Talents are celebrated through rich creative and performance opportunities within our school and beyond, including music performances, school-based showcases, creative arts experiences and community events that allow students to share their learning with pride and confidence.

Student leadership and voice are deeply embedded at Berinba. Through structured leadership roles, peer support opportunities and authentic leadership projects, students are empowered to contribute meaningfully to our school community. Our leaders, including SRC representatives and student leadership groups, have real responsibility and a genuine voice in shaping our school.

Curiosity and belonging are part of everyday life. Student-led clubs and interest-based opportunities at lunch and recess provide spaces where students can connect, create and collaborate around shared passions.

Students extend their strengths through specialist learning experiences in STEM, supported by our dedicated specialist teacher, with opportunities including coding, design thinking, problem-solving challenges and LEGO robotics.

Sporting development is supported through our representative Sport program, offering skill development, teamwork and pathways into representative sport. Students demonstrating high physical potential may access PSSA competitions and representative school sport opportunities, supporting both participation and excellence.

At Berinba, these opportunities are not about doing more they are about becoming more: confident learners, courageous leaders and connected members of our community.

Across NSW

Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) in NSW public schools ensures that every student with high potential is identified early and supported to thrive. Through inclusive, evidence-based practices, schools provide differentiated learning, enrichment opportunities and targeted support across the domains of intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical development. HPGE in NSW values equity, recognising that high potential exists in all communities, and aims to develop confident, capable learners who are challenged, engaged and empowered to reach their personal best.
